Alexander Craghead is a writer, photographer, and watercolorist born in Portland, Oregon, in 1978. His interest in the arts was influenced by a creative family and what he likes to describe as “too much exposure to PBS.” This was coupled with an upbringing in an area transitioning from an agricultural past to a suburban and urban future. The mysterious destinations of the railway tracks, the graceful curves of 1940s era highways, and the shadowy forms of long shuttered industries instilled in him an interest in the declining analog era. Simultaneously, the rapid modernization of the Portland area gave him an appreciation of forward thinking and a sense of the possibilities of the future. Culturally and generationally, Craghead straddles two eras — industrial and post-industrial, 20th Century and 21st — and this essential tension underlies his viewpoints and his work.
A former journalist specializing in transportation topics, Craghead has over forty bylines in regional and national publications. He is actively engaged in his local community, and currently works as a communications consultant in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan region.
